Node.js has acted as a catalyst for my server side development. I had previously used PHP but had always seen myself as a Front-end developer. Since I first played with Node.js in 2012 I have been excited to explore its capabilities and community.
Nature Publishing Group
Senior Front-end Developer-
I am currently working for the leading scientific publisher Nature Publishing Group. Having started as a junior I have risen to become a senior front-end developer and have worked on the NatureJournals iOS application as the technical lead. Whilst working at NPG I have worked on a variety of large-scale projects and contributed to the developer blog.
Front-end Developer & Designer-
Having completed my university placement at Ultraviolet Design I was honoured when they asked me to stay on as a freelance designer and developer. During term time I was working remotely from Bournemouth and during non-term time I would work in London with the rest of the team. I worked on a wide range of projects for UVd including UI design and development for various clients including a high street bank and a R&D experiment with augmented reality.
Front-end Developer & Designer-
Whilst studying at University I was working part time on freelance projects, in some cases I was working on behalf of agencies and the rest of the time I was directly with clients.
Cobbles to Kebabs is a Node.js based blogging platform I have been working on for two cyclist who took part in the Transcontinental race from Flanders to Istanbul. As the cyclists will be blogging from mobile devices and using data roaming the main aims were to deliver a lightweight and reliable admin interface which can be used to create rich and engaging articles whilst on the move. The project had a hard deadline and was produced during a short time frame. The site is available at cobbles-to-kebabs.co.uk and is still undergoing continuous improvements now that the race is over.
I recently used Node.js, Express, Amazon S3, MongoDB and the Instagram api to build a small application to aggregate photos from friends and family at a close friends wedding.

Outside of work I like to try and lead an active lifestyle and enjoy exploring the outdoor, whether it's within London or out in the countryside. This is heavily aided by my love for cycling and exploring new places. I also enjoy the wide variety of arts and entertainment London has to offer and am regularly attending exhibitions, shows, gigs.
